Plasma Bank for COVID 19

CBLM Hospital accepts plasma donors who have recovered from COVID-19 infection to help treat patients contracted to coronavirus. Before detailing plasma donations, let's look at what exactly is plasma therapy.

Plasma donations

Individuals recovering from the coronavirus infection (or has convalesced) contain antibodies that allow fighting the infection using the Plasma from the recovered patient’s body. Herein, antibodies are elements that circulate in the Plasma. It is a yellow colour liquid that is used for transporting and nourishing blood cells. The antibodies assist patients who are currently detected with the COVID-19 virus in recouping the infection's effect. At present, there is no specific treatment for the virus that is the reason for using the convalescent plasma treatment.

Eligibility Criteria for Plasma Donation

As per FDA, patients who have recently received vaccination against COVID 19 are not eligible for taking the convalescent plasma treatment. The reason for the ineligibility is the immune response. The immunity response tends to differ between vaccinated individuals against the virus and those who have recovered from the illness.

Hereby, the changes may determine its effectiveness on the virus and how Plasma may assist patients infected with COVID-19 infection. Individuals who have recently recovered from coronavirus can help in treating the infection. Besides, individuals who have recently got vaccinated are also welcome to donate Plasma.
